Washington State Amtrak Derailment Causes Several Fatalities, Many Injured

Today, an Amtrak train derailed in Washington State while traveling over a bridge that went over a highway on brand new tracks. One of the train cars flipped 180 degrees off of a bridge and landed on the highway. Several other cars hung off the side of the bridge going over the highway. It is not clear as of yet what caused this horrific event to unfold, and investigations are underway. However, initial reports have revealed that the train was speeding prior to the crash. At least three (3) people were killed, and many more were sent to hospitals in the region. The brand new tracks where the accident occurred were the result of a recent infrastructure investment program. It seems highly probable that the crash was because of Amtrak's negligence either in the building of the infrastructure, the design, or the operation of the train.

The attorneys at Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. know all too well that this is not the first time that such an event has occurred, and unfortunately probably not the last. We have represented train crash victims and their families against Amtrak, MARC, and WMATA, literally for decades. We know from experience that it is imperative for the crash victims to seek representation as soon as possible to secure access to justice.
