The Importance of Seeking Prompt Medical Attention After an Auto Accident

By: Matthew Tievsky

It's difficult to overstate how important it is to go to a hospital or doctor, immediately after you are in a car accident, if there is any possibility that you have been hurt. Countless times, we at Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. see clients who waited days after an accident to finally obtain medical attention. We generally hear the same two reasons: "I didn't feel anything because of the adrenaline rush after the accident"; and, "I thought I would feel better after a couple of days." Too often our clients find that they actually feel worse after a couple of days.Doctor Visit

Delaying treatment creates two problems. The first, of course, is that you don't get medical attention as early as you should, when it will be the most helpful to you. That's a health problem. The other problem, though, arises if and when you file a personal injury claim. When an insurance company, a judge, or a jury sees that you waited several days after an accident to seek medical attention, their inclination often is: "The accident can't have been that bad." That attitude makes it much harder for you to recover for the injuries you actually suffered. For the sake of both your health and compensation for your injuries, make sure you seek medical attention promptly after a collision, if you may have been injured.

If you believe you may need medical treatment as a result of an auto accident that wasn't your fault, you should contact the personal injury attorneys at Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. for a free consultation.
